The Jennifer Ward Memorial Fund
|
 |
The Jennifer Ward Memorial Fund was begun in 2005 in memory of Jennifer Ward, a daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin, a girlfriend, a teacher, a coach, a Parrothead, and most of all, a loving friend to everyone in her life. Jennifer was taken from us suddenly on January 7th, 2005, from a cardiac arrhythmia that was described by her doctors as a "one in a million occurrence". Much like her untimely death, Jen's life was one in a million - a mixture of love, care, kindness and giving, to her loved ones, her friends, her students, and just about anyone else whose life she touched. The mission of the Jennifer Ward Memorial Fund is to generate increased public support towards helping community and charitable efforts in Cape May County, NJ. Donations to the Memorial Fund help fund vital services that make a world of difference to the scholastic community and to those who suffer from heart ailments. The Jennifer Ward Memorial Fund has teamed up with AtlantiCare to provide Automatic External Defibrillators to organizations in need, starting with the Catholic Schools of Cape May County. The Jennifer Ward Memorial Fund has also started scholarship programs at St. Ann's Catholic School in Wildwood, NJ, where Jennifer was a teacher from 2002-2005, and at Ocean City High School in Ocean City, NJ, where Jennifer graduated from in 1993. The "Cheeseburger in Paradise" bus trip to the Jimmy Buffett concert saw 50 Parrotheads and friends have a great time while raising over $700 for the Memorial Fund. The bus left Marmora on August 25th for a cheeseburger cookout outside Citizens Bank Ballpark before the concert, then the group headed in for a great show with fantastic seats. Jimmy even obliged by playing Jen's favorite Buffett song, "One Particular Harbour", right before he and the 40,000 Parrotheads broke into "Margaritaville". Thanks to all who attended and contributed to the first of many Cheeseburger in Paradise trips.
